Make this Memorial Day Weekend Meaningful
Sblend and Beth Sblendorio welcome community members to their home for a BBQ in honor and memory of Dr. John Shirley's revered service to our community and country.
Dr. Shirley was a distinguished WWII veteran who was awarded a Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, and a Purple Heart as well as the Croix de Guerre by French President Jacques Chirac. He opened Livermore’s first veterinary hospital, authored two books, and was an avid traveler. He is a former Livermore council member and mayor, serving on the City Council from 1958 to 1966. In July 2019, Dr. Shirley was honored at a dedication ceremony for the new Dr. John Shirley City Council Chamber. John was loved by many and was dedicated to making Livermore the best it could be through his civil service and volunteer service with many organizations.
Keeping the Livermore spirit, the BBQ will be provided by Livermore native Ron Paulo, and Livermore native Steve Goodman will be DJ, playing everyone's favorite tunes.
The BBQ will raise funds for the Dr. John Shirley Memorial Scholarship Fund established by John's family following his death on Dec. 22, 2021. Scholarships will be awarded annually to Livermore students who exemplify John's motto of service above self. If you have to miss the fun, make your Memorial Day Weekend Meaningful by contributing directly to the scholarship fund.
