Just Food For Dogs (JFFD), known for using high-grade USDA meats and produce to make its small batch, home cooked pet food, will mark its debut in the Bay Area in mid-August. The Orange County, Calif-based company has entered into an agreement with Oakland-headquartered Pet Food Express to build dedicated boutiques at some of its 61 California stores. The first four stores to offer the products are in Palo Alto, Walnut Creek, Oakland (Rockridge) and San Jose (Blossom Hill).
“We are delighted to partner with Pet Food Express whose mission to maintain the health and increase the lifespan of our pets parallels ours,” said JFFD founder Shawn Buckley, who said his product is fit for human consumption and its clientele are the virtual who’s who of Hollywood.
JFFD was founded in 2010 by entrepreneur Buckley who gathered a team of 7 veterinarians to elevate pet food beyond what was currently on the market. The company grew in to include the LA and OC locations as well as its Los Alamitos facility that handles the company’s burgeoning online business. The business has grown exponentially, in part, because consumers can see the ingredients being used and the manner in which the food is being made in its exhibition kitchens. The initial boutiques at Pet Food Express will not feature the exhibition kitchens.
“JFFD really represents the future of pet food and we are happy that Pet Food Express recognizes that we are on the vanguard of this new wave,” added Buckley, who revealed that his company recently received a very substantial investment from the $14 billion equity group L Catterton to promote its national expansion.
