Description

Veteran's Day Cruise on the San Francisco Bay aboard FDR's presidential yacht, the USS Potomac.

Event Details

The USS Potomac was President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s "Floating White House" and personal retreat. Opened to the public in 1995, the Association for the Preservation of the Presidential Yacht Potomac now operates this National Historic Landmark as an active memorial to FDR and the momentous times through which he led our Nation.

Experience the excitement of living history while on board our beautifully restored ship. This is a one-of-a-kind memorial and a floating National Historic site.

For Veteran's Day, 2022, enjoy a special three–hour narrated History cruise on San Francisco Bay focusing on the history of the Bay and many of the sights we will see during the cruise. Knowledgeable, volunteer docents will be available to answer questions and provide ship’s tours as requested. Box lunches and beverages will be provided.

For everyone’s protection all our on-board crew and volunteers are fully vaccinated and boosted. We do require all guests be fully vaccinated and boosted - proof of all 3 vaccination will be checked at the gate - no exceptions for anyone regardless of age or condition. We strongly recommend you have a mask available. Covid safety guidelines for Alameda County as of the date of the sailing will be our guide.

Please secure your tickets early: These cruises sell out fast. This is a two hour cruise on the bay.

What to Wear: For your safety we must ask that no one wear high-heeled or platform shoes. The ladders are steep, the thresholds are raised, and the ship is moving. You need stable shoes to be safe.

It is best to dress in layers as the wind and weather can change from warm to cool and calm to windy very quickly. We do not offer blankets on-board, but you're welcome to bring your own!

There will be no ticket sales through the USS Potomac office or at the ship. The only way you can get on-board is to buy a ticket through our online Eventbrite service.

Arrive early and watch a 15-minute video in the Visitor Center prior to the cruise. The video provides a glimpse of Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s use of the Potomac, emphasizes the impact of his administration on the country and tells the Potomac’s restoration story.

Boarding typically begins 15 minutes before the departure at 10:30AM. We are located in the north end of Jack London Sq. next to the Ferry Terminal.

Please join us for this Veteran's Day event. We look forward to seeing you.
