Lake Merritt

Lake Merritt California is a tidal lagoon located near downtown Oakland, California. The tidal estuary is one of the key landmarks of Oakland and a popular destination for natives and visitors. It was designated as the United States’ first official wildlife refuge in 1870, although today much of the wildlife refuge and natural wetlands no longer exists.
