Downtown Oakland

Oakland, California is a major city along with San Francisco that comprises the San Francisco-Oakland metropolitan area on San Francisco Bay in northern California. Downtown Oakland is located on the eastern side of the bay and offers a number of attractions for travelers visiting the area. Downtown Oakland comprises an active business district that includes a number of high-rise office buildings, historic buildings, retail establishments, institutions of higher learning, residential buildings, a bustling waterfront, and other points of interest. One of Downtown Oakland’s most prominent landmarks is the Tribune Tower. The 21-story Art Deco tower was originally the home of the Oakland Tribune newspaper. Its clock-faced tower is one of the enduring symbols of Oakland. Jack London Square is one of downtown Oakland’s popular tourist attractions. It features restaurants, hotels, shopping, an Amtrak Station, a ferry dock, and other interesting attractions. It is located on the Oakland waterfront. Oakland City Center is an urban complex in downtown Oakland that has shopping, hotels, and offices. The Paramount and Fox Theaters are two historic theaters in downtown Oakland that host concerts and theatrical performances. Downtown Oakland is also the site of Laney College, Lincoln University, and a campus of Cal State East Bay. Old Oakland, featuring some of the original buildings in downtown Oakland, and Chinatown, are other neighborhoods that should be visited.
